The Boeing F-15 Eagle may not be the latest and greatest aircraft that our military has in its arsenal, but it’s still a sight to behold in the skies, especially during sunrise. This twin-engine, all-weather tactical fighter aircraft was originally designed by McDonnell Douglas, first flew in July 1972, and entered service in 1976.
It’s currently among the most successful modern fighters, with hundreds of victories and no losses in aerial combat. The Eagle has since been exported to Israel, Japan, and Saudi Arabia. It features a secondary ground-attack capability that was largely unused. Engineers also developed an all-weather strike derivative, the F-15E Strike Eagle, which entered service in 1989 and has been exported to several nations.
