Worried about accidentally buying fake AirPods? There’s now an app to for that, and it’s called FeaturePrint by Alitheon. Using just a photo, the Optical AI software observes and converts the minute surface details into a unique mathematical identity, whether it be gears, jewelry or even circuit boards.
Alitheon aims to replace barcodes, QR codes, and RFID tags with FeaturePrint. How? FeaturePrint characterizes the specific object from which it was extracted, not the kind of object. This means that it can represent a particular Intel Core i9 processor, but not the class of all Intel Core i9s. In other words, the item is its own proof, just like how a fingerprint is unique to each human, thus giving you the ability to authenticate items as well as track or trace individual them too.

FeaturePrinting enables accurate tracking on an assembly line and throughout distribution channels. It prevents counterfeiting not by detecting counterfeits but by identifying originals. It enables human biometrics with no possibility of profiling and creates the unbreakable object link that Blockchain needs to be secure and that smart contracts need to function,” said the company.
