Ford Mustang Dark Horse R Reveal
The 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse R would fit nicely alongside the 1800HP Super Cobra Jet unveiled earlier this year, as it’s also a track-only race car. Power comes from a 5.0L Coyote V8 that now makes over 500hp, thanks to an upgraded oil system, transmission cooling, differential cooling, as well as a Borla racing exhaust system, mated to a 6-speed Tremec 3160 manual transmission.

This turn-key race car will be sold to teams and is ready to compete in the all-new Mustang Challenge spec racing series, exclusively for Mustang Dark Horse R, sanctioned by the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA). It starts in 2024, running a 10 to 12-race calendar, with each event consisting of two practice sessions, one qualifying session and two sprint races. Deliveries are set to begin in 2024, with pricing starting at $145,000 USD.

Mustang Dark Horse R bridges the gap between Dark Horse and Mustang GT3 and GT4. Production-based Mustang vehicles have raced from the very beginning, all the way back to winning the 1964 Tour de France, even. Dark Horse R offers our passionate customers not just an attainable, factory-built race car, but also a racing series to compete with other Mustang enthusiasts,” said Mark Rushbrook, global director, Ford Performance Motorsports.
