Gashapon, or gachapon, refers to the famous Bandai capsule toy vending machines that you see all over the world, and Takara Tomy Arts decided to cash in on the craze with a gacha machine backpack. At around $75 USD, it’s far cheaper than buying an actual capsule toy vending machine, but looks the part, complete with a front pocket that lets you store the 10 included capsules.
While there is a mechanical dial that clicks when turned, the backpack itself is not able to dispense capsules. To recreate the experience, there’s a small zippered pocket at the bottom that lets you preload a capsule. Or, you could just use it as a normal backpack with plenty of room inside the main storage area for a tablet or possibly even a small laptop. Its available for pre-order now directly from the Takara Tomy Arts website.

If you head to Japan, there are countless gashapon arcades containing hundreds of these machines loaded with toys licensed from popular characters found in anime, video games and more. Nearly all gashapon toys are released in sets to entice you to collect them all. Unfortunately, you aren’t able to see which toy you’re getting, so it may cost you more than actually just buying the set from a third party.
