Half-Life 1 Ray-Traced Mod
Sultim Tsyrendashiev’s Half-Life 1 Ray-Traced mod has been released, and it integrates real-time path-tracing into the original game. Thanks to hardware accelerated ray tracing, the mod is capable of calculating global illumination, reflections, refractions, soft shadows, and other visual effects with interactive frame rates.

How does path-tracing make the original Half-Life 1 (1998) look that much better? It leverages path tracing for all of the game’s lighting, which means all of the light maps have been replaced, while the indoor scenes are illuminated by small light sources, casting dynamic shadows from appropriate objects. Plus, all muzzle flashes from gunfire cast light and shadows as well, reminiscent of DOOM. Based on the GoldSrc engine, this mod works smoothly for the most part, but has not yet been tested on AMD graphics cards. Download it here now.
