Insta360 Flow 2 Gimbal Smartphone
In a world where action cameras like GoPro and Insta360’s own X5 dominate the adrenaline-fueled vlogging scene, the humble smartphone gimbal often feels like the overlooked middle child of content creation gear. But Insta360’s latest release, the Flow 2, is here to demand attention. Priced at a wallet-friendly $109.99, this foldable, AI-powered smartphone stabilizer aims to bring pro-level video production to the masses.

At first glance, the Insta360 Flow 2 looks like it could slip into a jacket pocket without a fuss. Weighing just 348 grams (12.3 ounces) with an additional 25 grams for the magnetic phone clamp, it’s a featherweight contender in the gimbal world. Folded down, it’s smaller than a paperback novel, making it a travel vlogger’s dream.

The Flow 2 is a three-in-one marvel: a gimbal with three-axis stabilization, a selfie stick, and a tripod. Its 1,100mAh battery promises up to 10 hours of runtime, and in a pinch, it doubles as a power bank to juice up your phone. “It’s built for anyone with a story to tell, be that playing with kids, group vlogs, video calls, or just a quiet solo trip,” an Insta360 spokesperson noted.

The build quality feels reassuringly sturdy, with reinforced tripod legs that just work whether if you’re shooting on a windy cliffside or a bustling city street. It’s compatible with smartphones between 6.9 and 10mm thick and 64 to 84mm wide, covering most modern devices. Setup is a breeze, thanks to NFC one-tap pairing, which skips the tedious Bluetooth dance. Android users get an extra perk: unfolding the gimbal can auto-launch the native camera app, a feature iPhone users will envy.

The heart of the Flow 2 is its Deep Track 4.0 AI technology, which Insta360 claims is its “smartest tracking tech yet.” This isn’t just marketing fluff—Deep Track 4.0 can lock onto subjects even when they’re momentarily obscured by obstacles, making it ideal for dynamic shots like chasing kids through a park or capturing a friend weaving through a crowded market. It also supports multi-person tracking and active zoom tracking, ensuring your subjects stay in frame without awkward crops. “With Deep Track 4.0, Flow 2 keeps the best of what creators love, now at a price that makes it more accessible than ever,” Insta360 boasted in their launch announcement.

However, there’s a catch. The standard Flow 2 bundle ($109) only supports tracking within the Insta360 app, and its Active Zoom Tracking is limited to compatible iPhones. To unlock tracking in third-party apps like TikTok or Instagram, you’ll need the Tracker Bundle ($129), which includes an AI tracker accessory. This add-on also brings a built-in spotlight for low-light shooting, a feature absent from the standard bundle. While the spotlight is a nice touch for evening vlogs, it’s a bummer that full app compatibility requires an extra $40.

The Flow 2 also introduces a teleprompter mode via the Insta360 app, letting you load scripts that scroll on-screen as you record. It’s a godsend for solo creators who struggle to memorize lines, though you’ll need to squint at your phone’s screen to read them. For low-light scenarios, the built-in spotlight (available with the Tracker Bundle) ensures your footage stays crisp when the sun dips below the horizon.

At $109.99, the Flow 2 is a steal for what it offers, but the need for an extra accessory to unlock its full potential is a slight letdown. Still, as Insta360 puts it, “Flow 2 is built for anyone with a story to tell.” Whether you’re filming a travel vlog or a family barbecue, this gimbal makes it easier to capture moments that look like they belong on the big screen.
