Even though Samsung’s Galaxy Z Slide may be at least 1-year away, this Motorola smartphone with a rollable display was teased today at Lenovo Tech World 2022 in Hong Kong. No specifications were provided, although we do know it uses some type of flexible OLED screen, which does not require backlights to function, enabling it to be made thin enough to the point where they become flexible to expand or contract as needed.
This prototype has a 6.5-inch screen area when fully extended and retracts to slightly over 4-inches when closed. Unfortunately, there’s no word yet on pricing or availability. What sets flexible displays apart from their glass counterparts is that the former’s display area can be larger than the device itself. In other words, if a flexible device measures 5-inches diagonally and has a roll of 7.5mm, it can be stored in a device smaller than the screen itself and close to 15mm in thickness.
