One of Perseverance’s key objectives is astrobiology, and it includes caching samples that may contain signs of ancient microbial life. The rover will continue to characterize the planet’s geology as well as past climate, to help pave the way for human exploration of the Red Planet and as the first mission to collect and cache Martian rock and regolith.
