When NASA astronauts land on the Moon again during the Artemis III mission, which is currently scheduled for mid-2027, they’ll be using this Nikon Z9 camera, along with its specially designed thermal insulation blanket, to snap photographs.
The ultimate goal of the Artemis III mission is to successfully land a human crew at the Moon’s south polar region. It would see two astronauts land on the surface of the Moon for a stay of around one week. These two astronauts will then conduct up to four spacewalks on the Moon’s surface, performing a variety of scientific observations, including sampling water ice.
