A pilot managed to capture harrowing footage of their ejection from a Sukhoi Su-25SM fighter jet after being shot down with a helmet-mounted action camera. After safely doing so, we see the aircraft crash into a field and explode into a ball of flames. This subsonic, single-seat, twin-engine jet aircraft was developed in the Soviet Union by Sukhoi to provide close air support for Soviet Ground Forces.
The first Sukhoi Su-25 prototype completed its first public flight on February 22, 1975 and after testing, the aircraft went into series production by 1978 in Tbilisi. There were several early variants including the Su-25UB two-seat trainer, the Su-25BM for target-towing, and the Su-25K for export customers. Production ended in 2017, but there have been attempts to restart production in Georgia using partially completed airframes, although no new deliveries have been reported.
