The Pininfarina Battista Hyper GT is now the world’s fastest production car after finishing the ¼ mile in just 8.55 seconds and the ½ mile result in a mere 13.38 seconds, while hitting a top speed of 224.5 mph. Power comes from four liquid-cooled permanent magnet synchronous electric motors placed in each wheel that generate a combined 1900 hp and 1726 lb-ft of torque, enabling it to accelerate from 0-60mph in 1.79 seconds.
VBOX data systems were installed to verify the Battista’s times, while Autocar India’s Hormazd Sorabjee and Renuka Kirpalani were behind the wheel. For these runs, the Battista ran Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, with all top speed records being verified by Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI), the Indian sporting body affiliated to the FIA. If money is no object, prices start at $2.2-million USD for the base model Pininfarina Battista.
