There’s the Wii XL, and then Short Stack, which is unofficially the world’s smallest Nintendo Wii console that actually functions similar to its full-sized counterpart. It’s roughly the same size as a deck of cards and uses a trimmed Wii motherboard that measures just 62x62mm, yet still contains the CPU, GPU, RAM and flash memory.
Some things that had to be removed from the Wii motherboard include the original power circuitry and the USB / Bluetooth / GameCube connectors. The latter was replaced by couple of custom PCBs that were soldered directly to the front of a trimmed Wii motherboard to provide power and data. As for the case, it’s completely 3D-printed with a side that slides open to reveal GameCube controller ports, while the Wii’s iconic disc slot lights are recreated using a 1.5mm thick custom cut acrylic light diffuser.

To keep the clean aesthetic of the original Wii I wanted to hide the GameCube controller ports behind a panel. I always hated the hinged design of the original, and it is quite difficult to replicate at this scale, so I redesigned this panel to be a sliding panel,” said its creator.
