The Sony Xperia 1 VII, due to be unveiled on May 13, 2025, seems like a thrilling top-tier phone, with leaks suggesting it sticks to Sony’s distinct look while including major upgrades. Promotional images reveal it will be available in three colors: Black, Green, and a vibrant Purple, reintroducing a bold shade absent from recent Xperia models.
The design sticks to Sony’s boxy, simple look with a flat glass back, flat sides, and a flat screen. It’s a bit wider and thicker than the last model (161.9 x 74.5 x 8.5mm compared to 162 x 74 x 8.2mm). Look for equal top and bottom bezels (no notch or punch-hole), a fingerprint sensor built into the side power button, a special camera button, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
- Model Number CFI-2000
- Includes DualSense Wireless Controller, 1TB SSD, Disc Drive, 2 Horizontal Stand Feet, HDMI Cable, AC power cord, USB cable, printed materials,...
- Vertical Stand sold separately

It features a 6.5-inch OLED display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, 120Hz refresh rate, and LTPO technology for improved power efficiency. However, the Xperia 1 VII is expected to keep its FHD+ (2340 x 1080) resolution rather than return to 4K, though some leaks point towards a 4K OLED. BRAVIA technology ensures more vivid colors and sharpness, while dual light sensors make using the handset in sunlight a bit more bearable.

The triple rear camera system shines, with all three lenses using Sony’s new Exmor T sensors for clearer photos in low light, improved dynamic range, and less noise. It features a 48MP main camera, a 12MP ultra-wide, and a 12MP periscope telephoto with a 70-200mm zoom range. It borrows AI-powered autofocus and tracking from Sony’s Alpha cameras, with pro-level apps (Photo Pro, Cinema Pro, Video Pro) and a streamlined camera setup. The front camera is a 12MP shooter that can record 4K video.

The 5,000mAh battery supports 30W wired charging, 15W wireless, and 5W reverse wireless, matching other top phones. Sony says it can last two days based on their tests, helped by power-saving software. The phone should come with Android 15, offering four OS updates and six years of security updates.

Sony confirmed the reveal for May 13, 2025, at 11 AM JST (May 12, 10 PM ET) on their Xperia YouTube channel, with sales likely starting soon in Japan and Taiwan and a global release possibly delayed to July. The price is rumored to be around $1,399, in line with past Xperia 1 models, but it’s unclear if it’ll officially launch in the US since the Xperia 1 VI didn’t.
