You’d think a Tesla Model S drag racing a tuned 1,200 hp Dodge Challenger SRT Demon would be no competition for the electric vehicle, but it’s a lot closer race than you might think. This isn’t no ordinary Tesla Model S either, as it’s the tri-motor Plaid version with 1,020 horsepower and 1050 lb-ft of torque. That’s right, there’s one motor for the front axle and two motors powering the rear axle, all of which are carbon-wrapped rotor to allow for a much higher motor RPM.
The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is no slouch straight from the factory, as it boasts a supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V8 engine that makes 840 horsepower and 717 lb-ft of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, enabling the vehicle to hit 60 mph in 4.2-seconds. However, this example has been heavily modified to make 1,200 hp, paired with a racing transmission to handle all of that power. Let’s just say that it may take the 2023 Tesla Roadster SpaceX Edition to put up a real good fight for the Dodge Demon, but at least there wasn’t a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat on buggy wheels attempting burnouts.
