Can a Tesla Model S Plaid take on a 1,400hp twin-turbocharged Audi R8 in a drag racing showdown? The former does have a tri-motor (one front + two rear) setup making 1,020 hp and 1,050 lb-ft of torque, so it’s definitely no slouch, even though the Audi R8 V10 does cost around $40,000 USD more from the factory.
Power from the Audi R8 comes from a 5.2L V10 engine making 523 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque, mated to a 7-speed auto-shift manual gearbox, but this particular example has been boosted to nearly 1,400 hp at the crank with a pair of turbochargers. You do have to keep in mind that the Audi R8 weighs in at just 3,627-pounds, compared to the 4,766-pound Tesla Model S Plaid. Let’s just say that the Tesla Model S Plaid is far quicker off the line, but that is where the close match up ends.
