Tom Scott Curved Elevator Germany Hanover Neues Rathaus
Space elevators are one thing, this strange curved elevator at the Neues Rathaus (New Town Hall) in Hanover, Germany is another. This diagonal lift travels at a 17-degree angle as it covers the 43 meters (141 feet) up to the gallery at the top of the dome. Web developer and YouTuber Tom Scott traveled to this attraction to experience it firsthand.

Guests can view their surroundings through windows in the cabin at both the bottom and top sections. These windows can be switched to give off a glow while traveling up to the top of the dome if you want a closer look at the hardware. Once you reach the top, you’re greeted with a fantastic view of the city and its sights as well as the wooded ridge of the Deister far in the distance. If you should want to visit, it does cost €4.00 ($4.21) per adult and the lift is open everyday until 5:30pm.
