Matt Mika of Warped Perception has built the world’s first and only turbo diesel Tesla Model S hybrid that gets over 1,000-miles of range on a single charge. How did this idea come about? Mikka wanted a Tesla that did not have to stop and rely on charging stations when traveling long distances.
This project took years of planning and designing to get the hybrid system working just right. The proof of concept was completed in 2022 and Mikka immediately took it for a 2,700-mile road trip as documented in his latest YouTube video. Overheating components caused a few problems during the journey, but the diesel generate successfully recharged the Tesla’s battery while driving or parked, thus eliminating the need for charging stations.

With that constant droning in the background the entire time, you either forget about it or want to open the door on the freeway and jump out… But it got me to where I needed to go. I feel I may have become obsessed, but I had to make it work, and there was absolutely nothing on the market that would work for my application,” said Mikka to Insider.
