Design student and developer Elvin Hu is currently on working on a music app that turns the iPhone into an iPod Classic, complete with its iconic click wheel. He’s been tinkering with it since October, and shared his progress on Twitter. For those who never owned an iPod Classic, these devices have all five buttons integrated into the click wheel — a design which gives an uncluttered, minimalist interface, though the circuitry contains multiple momentary button switches. Will it ever get released to the public? Elvin says that it all depends on Apple. So far, he’s integrated Apple’s Cover Flow, an animated, three-dimensional graphical user interface element that enables users to scroll / flip through album / song artwork to select tracks.
