BMW M Hybrid V8 24 Hours of Daytona
The BMW M Hybrid V8 competed in the 24 Hours of Daytona last week, and it could be a preview of the automaker’s first supercar since the M1 back in 1979-1981. Power comes from a twin-turbocharged 4.0L V8 engine, paired with a hybrid drive system, making a combined 631 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. In 2024, the BMW M Team WRT will prepare for the debut of the car in the FIA WEC.

As you might have guessed from the title, the #24 BMW M Hybrid V8 finished sixth place overall in the GTP class, while #25 car took home inth in the GTP category. The latter had to be pushed to the pits to make an extended repair stop in the BMW M Team RLL garage after about an hour, otherwise it should have been right behind #24. Thankfully, both vehicles still managed to finish the race.

The race weekend at Daytona was unbelievably intense for everyone involved. My congratulations and thanks are due to all team members at BMW M Motorsport and the BMW M Team RLL for their tireless work and the impressive motivation that they display in the challenging project. Unfortunately, the team struggled with some issues during the race, which can happen with a new car like this. However, crossing the finish line with both BMW M Hybrid V8s is a crucial first step on the way to what will hopefully be a successful future,” said Franciscus van Meel, CEO BMW M GmbH.
