BYD is set to release an electric pickup truck later this year to take on Ford and Toyota outside of China. No technical specifications have been revealed, although a prototype was spotted at NIO headquarters in Shanghai, which means the truck could be using the latter’s battery swapping technology.
For those wondering why BYD won’t be releasing the electric pickup truck in China, it’s because pickup trucks in the country are required to drive in the slow lane on the far right and not allowed to exceed 62 mph. Plus, pickup trucks must be scrapped in 15-years, which immensely diminishes their resale value. We should hear more at Auto China 2024, which takes place in Beijing between April 25 to May 4.
