Li Kaixiang, a software development engineer for Chinese e-commerce website JD.com, has been inundated with projects, but didn’t want to leave his girlfriend hanging. So, he decided to create an AI-powered chatbot to answer and send messages automatically. The screenshot you see above is one sample conversation that the chatbot had recently, and while not perfectly human-like, it gets the job done. This chatbot isn’t exactly perfect either, as in another conversation, it wrote ‘Baby, this is the 618th day we’ve been together. Wish your mood is brighter than the sun,’ which is sweet, and then followed it with information about the weather (‘Temperature: 18.0° – 34.0° C… Wind: Level 3… Air quality: 42.0’) which it probably sourced from somewhere unrelated.
