DJI has long been the name to beat in drones, and with the Matrice 400, the company is raising the bar for what enterprise-grade aerial platforms can do. A better way to think of it is a flying toolbox for industries like emergency response, power inspection, and large-scale mapping.
This drone can stay airborne for up to 59 minutes, which means fewer battery swaps and more time getting the job done, whether you’re scanning power lines or mapping a sprawling construction site. With a payload capacity of 6 kilograms, it can haul serious gear. “The Matrice 400 is engineered for excellence, designed for versatility,” says Christina Zhang, Senior Director of Corporate Strategy at DJI.

Obstacle avoidance is where the Matrice 400 flexes its tech muscle. It’s equipped with rotating LiDAR and mmWave radar, systems precise enough to detect power lines as thin as a pencil from a distance. The drone’s Smart Detection combines visible and thermal imaging, letting it spot details in pitch-dark or smoky conditions.

Imagine piloting a drone miles away, whether you’re weaving through a bustling city or soaring over a remote forest. Keeping control in those scenarios is everything, and the Matrice 400’s O4 Enterprise Enhanced Video Transmission System makes it happen. It gets even wilder with the Airborne Relay Video Transmission feature, which turns the Matrice 400 into a flying signal booster, helping other drones in your fleet stay connected.

AR projection lets operators overlay digital maps onto the real world. This makes plotting flight paths or pinpointing key spots a breeze, whether you’re scouting a construction site or tracking wildlife. Plus, the drone can even take off and land on ships. As Zhang from DJI puts it, “This drone is about making complex tasks feel effortless,” and that’s exactly the vibe the Matrice 400 gives off.

Getting your hands on the Matrice 400 requires going through DJI’s authorized enterprise dealers, as this isn’t a consumer drone you’ll find on retail shelves. While DJI hasn’t publicly disclosed exact pricing, the Matrice 400’s advanced features and 6 kg payload capacity suggest it’s a premium investment, likely starting in the range of $10,000 to $20,000 USD, depending on configurations and payloads like the Zenmuse H30 or L2. For comparison, the Matrice 350 RTK, with a smaller 2.7 kg payload, starts around $10,000 USD without sensors. The Matrice 400 is available now through dealers like Drone Nerds and DSLRPros.
