You’ve seen Thermonator, the flame-throwing robot dog, now check out a dragon firefighter drone robot that can extinguish those flames. Developed by researchers at Akita Prefectual University in Japan, this robot consists of a flying hose that could one day help humans put out fires in dangerous or hard to reach places.
Flight is achieved through the use of eight controllable jets of water sourced from the 13.2-foot hose, while a thermal camera attached to its head can help locate the fire. It has a maximum flow rate of 1.5 gallons (6.6 liters) per second, resulting in a pressure rating of 1 megapascal (145 psi). Researchers believe that it could be put to use within this decade in real firefighting scenarios, but since the technology is open source, other companies may be able to fast track its development.
