Noiz Architects have proposed a futuristic “Spaceport Japan” that could be a hub for the first space tourists, whether it be Virgin Galactic or SpaceX. The main structure boasts a solar panel layer covering patios, open-air gardens, and farmlands, while also providing covered public space for guests. There will be two control towers handling the departures and arrivals, ensuring that standard aircraft will be able to recognize the structure from afar in case of emergency.
Guests will be able to visit the upper levels to plane spot, like you would at a standard airport. The architects purport that most will opt for a 2-hour spaceplane experience to the edge of space. Unfortunately, such an experience will still run you $250,000, or at least if you opt for the Virgin Galactic flight. Over time, this cost is expected to drop to the price of a first class airline seat, similar to a flight on the now retired Concorde.
