Flagship smartphones have really gotten out of hand, and the iPhone 17 Pro Max is one of those devices that feels like it’s charging you an arm and a leg for every single feature. But Google comes in with the Pixel 10 Pro XL, a phone that can easily give the iPhone a run for its money – and it costs less to boot. At $899 (was $1,199) for 256GB of storage – though you can usually get it for a bit less with a trade-in depending on the carrier.
When you first pick up the Pixel 10 Pro XL in the morning, the first thing you’ll notice is the screen. The 6.8-inch Super Actua OLED that really packs a punch – at 3,300 nits of peak brightness, it’s like looking at a clear, sunny day even when you’re indoors. And whether you’re scrolling through your feeds or watching a movie, that 1-to-120Hz variable refresh rate keeps everything looking silky smooth. Plus with 16GB of RAM, you can keep multiple apps open without any slowdown.

When it comes to cameras, which can be a real deal breaker in these smartphone battles, the Pixel 10 Pro XL really competes on this front in subtle, yet impressive ways. You’ve got three rear sensors – a 50MP main one, a 48MP ultrawide one, and a 48MP telephoto one – which all work together to produce photos that look natural right out of the app. Even in low light, you can get great shots of groups without using any of those harsh flashes. And with Super Res Zoom, you can zoom in up to 100 times and still get some really impressive detail.
The battery life is pretty good too, thanks to that 5,200mAh cell – it lasts over 30 hours on moderate use, which is pretty standard for a day in the life of a smartphone user. And even if you do use it a lot, you’ll still have plenty left by the evening. You can charge it up quickly – either wired at 45W or wirelessly at 25W using the latest Qi2 technology that keep accessories securely clipped in.
We can’t forget about the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor either, which can even work when your fingers are a bit damp. Plus, the recommendation engine is always just ahead of the game – anticipating what you’re going to say before you even say it.
