The GoPro Hero8 Black has been officially unveiled, and unlike its predecessors, this updated model features Hypersmooth 2.0, the company’s second-generation stabilization technology, complete with ‘Boost’ and an auto horizon leveling modes. Plus, TimeWarp (hyperlapse mode) also got a 2.0 update. For those who aren’t familiar with this mode, it automatically adjusts video playback to the speed you’re traveling and enables you to slow it down to capture moments with a tap of the screen. Compared to the Hero7, the Hero8 is 14% lighter and sports a foldable built-in mount, an upgraded built-in microphone, as well as the ability to capture 4K/60p | 1080/240p video | 12MP photos. However, the most notable addition is “Expansion Mods” that let you equip the camera with an improved microphone, LED lighting, an external display, and lots more. The Media Mod gives you a microphone, USB Type-C port, 3.5mm mic jack, HDMI port, and two cold-shoe mounts. Yes, there’s also an external 1.9-inch flip-up display for vlogging.
It’s available to order today, and shipments begin October 15th with retail availability starting October 20th. If you want the Media Mod, Light Mod and Display Mod, they will be available for pre-order in December, priced at $80, $50 and $80, respectively.
