Hyundai Mobile Eccentric Droid MobED Robot CES 2022
Hyundai’s Mobile Eccentric Droid (MobED) will be officially unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas next month, but they provided us with a sneak peek today. This advanced robotic platform sports four uniquely positioned wheels that move optimally and independently with a low and flat body.

It’s designed specially for applications that require stability and high maneuverability, such as movie sets. MobED is best utilized in complex and challenging environments, thanks to its adjustable wheelbase and flexible steering angles. At 67 cm long, 60 cm wide, and 33 cm tall, it can hit a top speed of 18.6 mph (30 km/h). On a full charge, expect up to four hours of driving time with its 2 kWh battery capacity. Power comes three motors in each wheel, and its 12-inch pneumatic tires further help absorb bumps as well as vibrations.

We have developed the MobED platform to overcome the limitations of existing indoor guide and service robots while maximising its usability in cities by dramatically improving the platform’s overall mobility. We are also looking ahead to assess how potential users of MobED will further expand their needs and use for this type of technology,” said Dong Jin Hyun, Head of Hyundai Motor Group Robotics Lab.
