Renault’s got a serious talent for tugging at our nostalgic heartstrings while cranking up the electric vehicle cool factor, and their new Renault 4 Savane 4×4 Concept is proof. Rolled out with flair at the 2025 Roland-Garros French Open, this rugged, all-wheel-drive show car mixes the retro charm of the classic Renault 4 with cutting-edge EV tech and a go-anywhere look that’s ready to steal the spotlight.

The Savane 4×4 Concept is built on the AmpR Small platform, the same foundation as the Renault 5 E-Tech and the upcoming next-gen Nissan Micra EV. This B-segment architecture is designed for compact electric vehicles, but Renault has stretched its potential here by adding a second electric motor on the rear axle, delivering permanent all-wheel drive.

This isn’t just a stylistic flex—the dual-motor setup makes the Savane agile on muddy, snow-covered, or unsurfaced routes, with true off-road capability. While Renault hasn’t shared specifics on power output or battery capacity, the standard Renault 4 E-Tech offers up to 150 hp and a 52-kWh battery with a 410-km (255-mile) WLTP range. With dual motors and chunkier Goodyear tires, this beast might trade a bit of range for some serious off-road muscle, though Renault’s keeping the exact numbers hush-hush for now.


The Savane 4×4 Concept is a total looker, nailing that sweet spot between throwback vibes and modern cool. Its Jade Green paint—new for Renault—pops like nobody’s business against glossy black bumpers and wheel arches, giving it a classy yet tough-as-nails attitude. Up top, the roof rocks a printed fabric with a pixelated camo pattern that’s less “army surplus” and more “ready for your Instagram close-up.” Ditching old-school bumpstops, the front and rear bumpers flaunt 3D-printed shock absorbers—a slick, high-tech flex that screams Renault’s future-forward game. A “4Savane” logo on the side and a understated 4×4 badge on the tailgate let everyone know this rig’s built for adventure.


But don’t let the style fool you—this thing’s engineered to roam. Its always-on all-wheel-drive, powered by that second electric motor, is controlled by smart electronics to keep traction locked in, whether you’re slogging through mud or cruising snowy trails.


Renault says it’s “agile” on tough terrain, tackling everything from rutted paths to legit off-road challenges. With boosted ground clearance and wider tracks, it dances around obstacles, and those grippy Goodyear tires keep it glued to the ground.



Step inside, and the Savane 4×4 Concept’s cabin is like a cozy, rugged hug. The Deep Brown “textile refined” seats sport quilted backrests with a sneaky “4” design, plus houndstooth accents that add a touch of class to the sides and lower backs. The dashboard, also draped in Deep Brown textile, gets horizontal contrast stitching that flows to the door panels, tying the whole upscale vibe together. A glowing “4Savane” logo on the dash throws in some retro-futuristic charm, making this interior feel like the perfect spot for a weekend mountain getaway, blending comfort with a let’s-hit-the-trail purpose.
