Unveiled at Auto Shanghai 2025, the Toyota bZ7 is a China-exclusive electric sedan set to take on the Tesla Model S, Xpeng G3, NIO ET5, and BYD’s Han. It stretches over 5 meters (197 inches) long, larger than a Toyota Camry and in the same league as the Mercedes EQE. Its smooth, coupe-like shape with a sloping fastback design gives it a fancy, high-class look, mixing styles from the Prius and Crown.
It’s expected to use BYD’s Blade lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery and electric motors. While exact details aren’t out yet, it’ll likely have better range and power than the smaller bZ3, which has 49.9 kWh or 65.3 kWh batteries for up to 382 miles on the CLTC test. Early rumors point to rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions with up to 500 horsepower.

Toyota highlights “intelligent technology,” likely including Huawei’s HarmonyOS Cockpit 5 with AI-enhanced picture quality and advanced driver assistance systems (ADS 4.0), reducing latency and braking intensity. The LiDAR sensor suggests strong self-driving features, made for China’s love of the latest tech.

The bZ7 mixes Toyota’s stylish design with BYD’s reliable EV tech and Huawei’s smart software, making a sedan that’s both good-looking and super modern. It’s a big step to grab more of China’s super-tough EV market, where sedans are still a hit, and it shows Toyota’s ready to meet local needs with a top model that’s more than just a bigger bZ3.

Though the price isn’t set, the bZ7 will likely cost more than the bZ3 (starting at about $23,200). It wants to mix Toyota’s trusted reliability with China’s cutting-edge EV tech, making it a fancy but reachable choice against Tesla and BYD. It’s set to launch in late 2025 or 2026.

The cabin is a big upgrade from Toyota’s usual bZ models, aimed at China’s tech-loving crowd. It has a huge infotainment screen running Huawei’s HarmonyOS, a simple digital dashboard, and a head-up display. Fancy details include white perforated leather, wood trim, soft lighting, and a two-tone steering wheel that feels high-end. Real buttons work alongside the tech to make it easy to use, and Huawei’s logo is on the wireless charging pad.
