At the Xinhua News Agency media conference yesterday, Android smartphone maker China Unicom showcased a prototype Vivo NEX 5G. It’s powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC with Snapdragon X50 modem, and look nearly identical to the original Vivo NEX with Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC. The main difference between the 4G and the 5G versions are the newly designed motherboard and antenna to improve the overall connectivity, as well as coming equipped with a larger battery. Read more for a picture of the prototype and additional information.
Vivo is an early adopter of 5G technology, as the company began work on a 5G smartphone way back in 2016, and also created a dedicated 5G R&D center in 2017. The Vivo Nex 5G smartphone should launch during 2019, initially in China, to compete against OnePlus, Huawei, Samsung, Xiaomi, and other smartphone makers. More details are likely to surface at Mobile World Conference 2019 in Barcelona.
