The 2023 BMW M5 Competition may look like a family sedan on the outside, but it packs a twin-turbocharged 4.4L V8 engine making 617 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, complete with launch control. However, most would not compare it to an Audi R8 V10 generating 570 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque. That is exactly what Car Wow did for their latest drag racing showdown.
Power differences aside, the Audi R8 V10 weighs in at just 3,505-pounds, compared to the BMW M5 Competition’s 4,177-pound curb weight. One other big difference is that the M5 sends power to all wheels, while the R8 only has power sent to the rear wheels. This means that the M5 will always have an advantage at the starting line since there is little to no wheel spin off the line. With all that said, the results may still surprise you.
