Microsoft Xbox Consoles Games Accessories Price Increase
Microsoft is raising prices for Xbox consoles, some accessories, and certain new first-party games, due to market conditions. Starting with the consoles, the Xbox Series S (512GB) will now cost $379.99, up from $299.99 ($80 increase); Xbox Series S (1TB) $429.99, up from $349.99; and Xbox Series X (1TB) $599.99, up from $499.99 ($100 increase).

Unfortunately, these increases have hit accessories as well, with the standard Xbox Wireless Controller going up from $60 to $65, special edition controllers up from $79.99 to $89.99, and the Elite Series 2 Controller up from $130 to $150.

While Microsoft hasn’t explicitly blamed tariffs, many sources point to the 145% on Chinese imports as a significant factor. Xbox consoles and components are primarily manufactured in China, and these tariffs increase production costs. Some analysts suggest Microsoft is spreading these costs globally to soften the blow in the US, their largest market.

Microsoft is shifting focus from hardware to services like Xbox Game Pass (unaffected by price hikes) and multi-platform game releases (e.g., Forza Horizon 5 on PS5). Higher console prices might reflect a reduced emphasis on hardware sales, especially as they’re reportedly planning a next-generation console.
