There are underwater drones, and then this spy camera cleverly disguised as a crab robot. It was built by John Downer Productions to study peacock mantis shrimp in their natural environment, where its front claws can deliver an explosive 60-mile-per-hour punch.
In the clip, we see the robotic crab get up-close and personal with a female peacock mantis shrimp, which fortunately does not attack. The robot then lies in wait, observing a male peacock mantis shrimp stalking its prey before knocking it out with a powerful punch. Their punch is so quick that it results in ‘cavitation’ bubbles, or a super heated bubble, which for a split second, reaches temperatures of 4,400° C in the surrounding water.
