Analogue’s Mega SG may be able to play nearly all SEGA Mega Drive / Genesis cartridges, but nothing beats owning the actual console. This held true for a gamer couple who recently got married in Japan, as they decided to celebrate with a wedding cake modeled after the console, complete with the CD-ROM attachment as well as a Sonic & Amy cartridge topper.

This cake was so impressive that the official SEGA Japan Twitter account congratulated them. Speaking of the SEGA Mega Drive, it’s set to celebrate its 34th anniversary on October 29th, despite faring poorly against Nintendo’s Super Famicom as well as NEC’s PC Engine in Japan at the time. Fortunately, the console achieved massive success in North America, Brazil and Europe, thanks to Sonic the Hedgehog.
- Pay tribute to the classic Sonic the Hedgehog video game and recapture the magic in LEGO style with this brick-built version of the famous game level
- Includes a Sonic the Hedgehog LEGO minifigure, Dr. Eggman with buildable Eggmobile, Moto Bug with 2 face options, and Crabmeat figures
- Push the lever and launch the LEGO Sonic minifigure for Super Sonic jumps to evade the Bug and Crabmeat LEGO Sonic figures and collect the rings
In 1991, the launch of the SNES sparked a console war in the United States and Europe, which eventually led to the creation of the Videogame Rating Council due to such titles as Mortal Kombat and Night Trap. The SEGA Genesis was succeeded by the SEGA Saturn in 1994, but many of the games live on in re-releases or compilations on Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, Steam, Nintendo Switch Online, etc.
