While we wait for the Apple virtual reality headset, the much anticipated Half-Life 2 VR mod public beta has now launched on Steam. If it’s your first time hearing about this fan-made project, this mod essentially adds support to the original 2004 PC gaming classic by Valve Software, complete with tracked motion controls that enable players to physically walk around, pick up objects or climb ladders.

There’s Jurassic Life, and then this creepy Half-Life 2 mod that transforms Valve’s FPS into a horror game with G-Man never leaving your side. It was created by a modder called ALLOS, and G-Man can appear from just about anywhere, including suddenly from walls or buildings or if he gets near you for too long, the game automatically disconnects into a white void.

Many already know that the Half-Life Snow War mod isn’t the latest or greatest, and has in fact been out for nearly two decades now. As many already know, Half-Life: Alyx is a virtual reality first-person shooter set between the events of Half-Life (1998) and Half-Life 2 (2004). Players take control of Alyx Vance who is on a mission to seize a superweapon belonging to the alien Combine. This latest mod lets you enter the world of BioShock Rapture in virtual reality, if you’re brave enough that is. Called “Return to Rapture,” the mod is focused on Andrew Ryan, the founder of Rapture, who holds a suitcase with the key to ADAM (a genetics-manipulating chemical) and BioShock’s iconic plasmids.

Want to play Half-Life: Alyx, but can’t get your hands on a virtual reality headset? If so, then you’re in luck, as a developer has just released a mod, called ‘Pancake FPS Starter Kit’, that not only lets you play in non-VR mode, but also adds the ability to add custom weapon scripts. If you happen to use the base mod, there will only be weapons from Half-Life 2. Read more for a video and additional information.
