Remember Nintendo’s Wii Fit Balance Board? Modder GingerOfOz specializes in building custom portable consoles, and his latest project turned the accessory into a portable Wii console of sorts. This meant installing a small screen on the Balance Board, all without needing a sensor bar except for stamping the calendar.
The AA battery opening was removed and a 3D printer was used to create two separate pieces – one as a mounting board for the PCBs and the second piece for the cooling system. Since the original accessory uses Bluetooth technology and four pressure sensors to measure the user’s center of balance, those parts needed to be retained as is. Next, the section for the screen had to be cut out as well as the speaker holes. After all the PCBs and battery was secured, it was ready for some Wii Fit action, but not without a few issues.
