Xiaomi has been known for its innovative smartphone designs, and the Mi Mix Alpha is definitely no slouch. This phone boasts a screen that not only curves around the sides, but goes all the way to the back of the device. “The front, side, and back of the phone are almost entirely display,” said the company. It may be a concept right now, but Xiaomi says the Mi Mix Alpha will go on sale in December in China, priced at a hefty $2,810 (RMB 19,999). The device sports a wraparound display because all the main buttons, aside from power, have been moved to the sides, including the status bar, which shows the battery life, cellular connectivity, Bluetooth, etc. There’s still a physical power button up top, but virtual side buttons take the place of traditional volume tabs. On the left side (labeled “6”), a button appears to be used as the volume button, and rather than gesture navigation, the Android navigation buttons for “Back” and “Home” are located on the right side of the wraparound display. Yes, we imagine this taking quite some time to get familiar with.
Technical specs wise, it features a Snapdragon 855+ processor, 12GB of RAM, 512GB of internal storage, a 108MP camera, a 20MP wide-angle camera and a 12MP 2x telephoto sensor.
